| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will provide the student with the necessary knowledge underlying the analytical practical procedures used in the area of Transfusion Medicine. Content: 鈥� Manual antibody identification and titration methodologies 鈥� Direct Antiglobulin Test 鈥� Selecting blood components 鈥� Red cell antigen 鈥� antibody detection (semi-automated) 鈥� Manual phenotyping red blood cells (Patients) 鈥� Separation and preparation of blood and blood components 鈥� Adsorptions and Elutions. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the study-unit the student should be able to: 鈥� Describe the principles of the most frequently used pathology laboratory tests used in haematology and transfusion science together with their diagnostic significance; 鈥� Carry out these tests; and 鈥� Explain the theory and practical aspects of blood transfusion and cross matching.
