DESCRIPTION This is a five week placement component in the course intended to provide participants with hands on experience at museum and heritage sites as educators on location. It is of five-week duration and the students will be supervised. The work involved entails reading about the subject dealt with specifically by the heritage and museum site, followed by efforts to present the material in an effective pedagogical manner commensurate with the age of the visitors, be they children, adolescents or adults.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To provide students with hands-on experience of being museum and heritage sites educators.
- To put their pedagogical learning into practice.
- To provide students with the opportunity to learn to adapt to different teaching situations, according to age of learners and context in which the Practicum shall be held.
- To assist students to adapt to different situations, such as working with individuals or groups.
- To provide students with the opportunity to learn to listen to and build on the visitors' experiences.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Identify different pedagogical contexts concerning heritage and museums.
- Recognise and value what visitors bring to the museum or heritage learning setting.
- Describe how the context in question constitutes a learning site.
- Identify the different interests of visitors reflected in what rivets their attention with respect to the site in question.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Articulate ideas fluently.
- Make use of effective means of communication.
- Adapt language and examples to people of different ages.
- Develop listening skills.
- Connect with people's interests as expressed in the exchanges.
- Develop dialogical skills.
