DESCRIPTION This is the research component of the course consisting of a dissertation of 25000 words. It will deal with a topic related to museum education. Each student will be assigned a supervisor by the second year of the course.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To provide students with the opportunity to research a topic of their choice related to the area of this Master's degree.
- To read around a specific topic related to heritage and museums.
- To reflect on their own practical experience and theoretical formation.
- To engage in research of wither a quantitative or qualitative nature or library work.
- To add to paucity of existing literature in the field.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Explore in depth a specific aspect of museum education;
- Develop a research question, theme or hypothesis;
- Propose a research design that enables the exploration of the research question/ theme or test the hypothesis;
- Write a focused, critical review of literature related to the chosen area of study;
- Critically appraise various research methodologies.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Expose an argument and articulate ideas in a coherent manner;
- Solve problems encountered while realising the project;
- Design and implement a research methodology appropriate for the chosen area of study;
- Analyse data and evaluate research presented in journal articles, books, reports and policy documents;
- Conduct research in an ethical manner;
- Master the tools of research;
- Document ideas and data gathered during research.
