DESCRIPTION This study-unit requires students to prepare a dissertation. The objective of this dissertation is for the student to demonstrate his/her understanding of course material by relating it to the accountancy function in a public sector context. The dissertation is required to be not less than 5,000 words and not more than 7,000 words.

The dissertation is carried out under an approved supervisor. A dissertation proposal will need to be submitted for the approval of the Dissertations Board by the end of Year 4 and the completed work will need to be presented for examination by end of April of Year 5.

Study-unit Aims:

The objective of this dissertation is for the student to demonstrate his/her understanding of course material by relating it to the accountancy function in a public sector context. The aim of this study-unit is to provide students with the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills acquired throughout the course to a real world situation.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Relate knowledge and skills gained during the course to practical situations.

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Carry out research in a systematic manner, and describe the findings in the form of a long structured report.
