DESCRIPTION | Objectives: To create awareness of the importance of the EU for Maltese agriculture and of the main points of the evolving Common Agricultural Policy. Contents: European Union Agricultural Policy (Directives; legislation); Common Agricultural Policy; National Agricultural Policy (Laws; Legal Notices). The marketing concept and the marketing mix. Marketing functions and efficiency. Marketing channels, marketing margins and mark-up. Cooperatives and cooperatives philosophies. Operations and management of Cooperatives; contribution to national economy. Cooperative performance, management problems, and the role of government cooperatives. The need for agricultural extension. Basic philosophies behind agricultural extension work. Agricultural extension and supporting disciplines; agricultural extension and research; bottlenecks in the administration of extension programmes; Rural development Plan.
