DESCRIPTION | The study-unit consists of an interdisciplinary research project related to the candidate's chosen fields of research, combining at least two of the areas offered by the Faculty of Arts. The student will be supervised by academics pertaining to the specific areas of research. Tutorials will be held regularly to discuss relevant research material, readings and the progress with the written text of the dissertation. The candidate is expected to write a research dissertation of 50,000 words with a value of 80 ECTS credits on the chosen topic under investigation. Study-Unit Aims: - Provide students with the opportunity to undertake an independent and interdisciplinary research project; - Develop advanced research skills, including critical analysis and synthesis of knowledge across disciplines; - Enable students to produce a substantial, original dissertation of 50,000 words that contributes meaningfully to interdisciplinary scholarship within the humanities. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate an advanced and critical understanding of key concepts, theories, and debates within the chosen fields of research and their intersections; - Analyse and synthesise knowledge from at least two disciplines within the humanities; - Apply appropriate research methodologies and theoretical frameworks to develop an in-depth understanding of the selected research topic. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Design and write a substantial piece of research, demonstrating advanced academic writing skills and critical evaluation of sources; - Communicate complex ideas and research findings effectively; - Engage in interdisciplinary research, integrating perspectives from multiple humanities disciplines.
