DEPARTMENT Business and Enterprise Management

DESCRIPTION The study-unit is broad-ranging and provides a grounding in the core theories, frameworks and tools central to the effective management of contemporary firms. The study-unit introduces contemporary schools of thought and explores various aspects of management from within two main areas: Organisation Theory and Management Science. In so doing, it will provide students with a secure conceptual, theoretical, and discursive understanding of the academic foundations of the field. Furthermore, it will draw on examples and issues practising managers experience in their organisational lives.

The main topics covered are the concept of the firm, the challenges of complex environments, the functions of management, managerial skills, decision-making tools, and patterns of organisation.

Lectures will provide analytical frameworks grounded in academic research and relevant empirical findings.
