DESCRIPTION This study-unit consists entirely of supervised, laboratory-based practical sessions.

Students will primarily work individually but they will also be engaged in group exercises.

During the practical activities, students will be encouraged to develop their observation skills and manual dexterity. They will be asked to handle and test, following a systematic approach, a range of traditional materials, as well as to reproduce some basic techniques used across the different streams.

Students will document and critically reflect on their practical work throughout the unit using a journal. They will also be asked to write a final report.

Study-Unit Aims:

- Develop manual skills and dexterity, through practical activities related to making works of art;
- Introduce the students to the preparation and use of traditional materials, and to the process of making historically-accurate reconstructions;
- Engage the students in hands-on activities aiming at testing traditional materials and processes through empirical and experiential learning;
- Introduce the importance of critically assessing materials and methods during practical applications.
