DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is suitable for students who have completed the course of Elementary Chinese 1, or who have the equivalent knowledge of this latter study-unit. It is designed to introduce more Chinese characters and vocabulary, further knowledge of sentence structure, grammar and Chinese customs related to the course content. Learners will develop the language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing and be ready to go on to the next level of learning. Study-unit Aims 1. learn 300 more characters and about 500 more words 2. be able to communicate freely in daily life situations 3. be able to describe some events and to express their own ideas and views while participating in conversations on a limited range of topics. 4. The language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing will be improved further. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. recognise and write 300 new Chinese characters 2. develop a vocabulary of 500 words and frequently used phrases 3. master the Chinese sentence structure and grammar in the courses 4. understand simple Chinese etiquette and customs related to the course content. 2. Skills (including transferable [generic] skills): By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. be confident in their competence in daily communication with Chinese people. 2. read and write more sentences in Chinese 3. translate some simple Chinese sentences or paragraph into English Main Text/s and any supplementary readings The Confucius Institute at the University of Malta has all the following books: 1.
