TITLE Enterprise Solutions

UM LEVEL 05 - Postgraduate Modular Diploma or Degree Course

MQF LEVEL 7

ECTS CREDITS 5

DEPARTMENT Computer ¸£ÀûÔÚÏßÃâ·Ñ Systems

DESCRIPTION The study-unit focuses on advanced process and configuration issues related to enterprise software implementations. This is achieved by applying Enterprise and Solution Architecture principles, particularly working in relation to ¸£ÀûÔÚÏßÃâ·Ñ Systems and Technologies. The principles will be applied in a broad way, spanning the spectrum from business concerns to information technologies.

The topics covered will investigate practices in the workplace, including but not limited to mobile technology, knowledge acquisition in the workplace and context awareness techniques to improve process work-flows.

Social media represents one of the most significant changes on the Internet. This study study-unit will allow students to familiarise themselves with newly emerging social media and Web 2.0 landscape and its underlying concepts. Advantages of how businesses can gain a competitive advantage will be done by means of an introduction to data analysis in an enterprise context.

Furthermore, modern business expansion is driven by cloud-based enterprise solutions. This study unit will delve into content cantered on developing solutions for Microsoft Azure, a forefront player in the field. It will cover topics such as the implementation of Azure Application Service Web Applications, Azure Functions, and the development of solutions harnessing the capabilities of Azure Cosmos DB.

Hence this study-unit will also include an overview of the technologies, techniques, and algorithms used in the creation of effective data visualization for effective communication within the enterprise.

The study- unit will also require the student to create a software artefact that demonstrates competence in applying the techniques and concepts introduced in the study-unit.

Study-Unit Aims:

The aims of the study-unit are to:
- Introduce the best practices, standards, techniques, and concepts of enterprise application design;
- Use case studies to solve common problems in industry related to the chosen domain;
- Differentiate between different algorithms that can be applied depending on the available data;
- Stay up-to-date with modern enterprise solutions technologies, particularly cloud-based solutions, and recognise their potential for advantageous application;
- Evaluate the outcome of the application of a chosen technique to a case study;
- Configure the solutions related to the given domain based case studies to reflect the outcomes of the tasks.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will:

- Have an in depth appreciation of advanced state-of-the-art topics in business analytics;
- Be able to outline the research landscape of modern organisation practices at a workplace environment and explain how different areas of the topic relate to one another;
- Be able to choose the most suitable technique/s and results presentation methods in order to evaluate experimental ideas in the field;
- Be able to appraise an implementation project and critically point out its shortcomings and assumptions;
- Be able to contrast different model-building techniques and be able to select one for the problem at hand.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Discuss and critically analyse outcomes from use-cases covering current open problems in the field;
- Search for state of the art techniques to solve domain specific problems;
- Implement and develop basic applications on the Microsoft Azure platform;
- Present a solution using proper visualisation tools;
- Analytical skills: analysing a situation and coming forward with a logical solution;
- Communications skills: understand and put forward your point to others;
- Problem solving skills: collect relevant information and solve the problem systematically.
