DESCRIPTION | The study-unit provides participants with an overview of specific occupational sectors and industries and then focuses on applying previously learned general occupational health and safety principles to these specific sectors and industries. Thus the unit providing participants with an opportunity to apply knowledge and understanding to various local and international scenarios. The unit builds upon the knowledge and skills gained in CLS2309 by introducing participants to further applied topics. Study-Unit Aims: The study-unit aims to: - Provide participants with an overview of specific organisational sectors and industries, in particular those factors which are likely to have an impact upon the health and safety of workers and effect the implementation of health and safety interventions; - Highlight the risk assessment, implementation of health and safety interventions and evaluation of these interventions specific to the covered areas; - Discuss relevant regulation and legislation within these specific industries and sectors. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Recall and synthesise the salient features and current health and safety situation in the below described occupational settings and topics in a final assessment. - Critically analyse applied hazard identification, risk assessment and control along with safe systems of work and the evaluation of measures within the following occupational environments and topics in a final assessment:   - Office Safety   - Hospital Safety   - Elderly Homes   - Childcare establishments   - Schools   - Leisure Centres   - Indoor and outdoor entertainment events   - Hotel Establishments   - Oil and gas operations   - Occupational diving   - Police and army - Examine and demonstrate mastery of regulations and legislation pertaining to the above occupational settings. - Demonstrate advanced knowhow and ability to critically analyse disaster and emergency management systems during a final assessment. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate mastery in identifying hazards, conducting risk assessments and suggesting control measures and safe systems of work for the following applied occupational environments and topics:   - Office safety   - Hospital safety and elderly homes   - Childcare establishments and schools   - Leisure centres as well as indoor and outdoor entertainment events   - Hotel Establishments   - Oil and gas operations   - Diving   - Police and army - Develop and manage disaster and emergency management policies, including in unpredictable or complex work situations, as well as those to cope with National disasters.
