DESCRIPTION This unit is intended for students who are accountable for all on-site activities necessary to complete a construction project and perform the role of construction site management in accordance with Maltese legislation. Students will investigate the strategies employed to manage workplace hazards at construction sites, including the utilization of risk assessments, monitoring, and review procedures. Additionally, they will examine the methods employed to identify those hazards. The unit examines health, safety, and welfare requirements and responsibilities necessary to comply with current legislation. It will introduce students to induction briefings to inform those responsible of their designated duties; notices and procedures for the execution of construction projects; records of accident reports; injury reports and records; safety barriers; management of protection clothing and safety equipment: expiry dates, calibration, testing and inspections.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of this study-unit is to equip students with a thorough comprehension of the principles, techniques, and challenges associated with site management in the construction sector. It introduces key concepts that are essential for the efficient execution of construction activities on-site, including planning, coordination, and control. The unit focuses on health and safety regulations, resource management, communication, and leadership skills that are essential for effective site management. By the end of this subject, students will have acquired the fundamental knowledge and practical skills required to successfully manage construction sites in accordance with industry standards. Students will be prepared to identify hazards that may impact the workplace and its environment and create appropriate risk assessment reports, while taking precautions to reduce risk on sites.

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Explain the fundamental principles of site management and their role in successful construction project execution;
- Discuss the regulatory and legal requirements affecting construction site operations, including health and safety laws;
- Identify the key responsibilities of a site manager, including resource allocation, risk assessment, and quality control;
- Evaluate different site management techniques and their impact on productivity and project efficiency;
- Describe the role of communication and coordination in managing multi-disciplinary teams on a construction site;
- Analyse environmental considerations and sustainability principles in site management.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Develop site management plans that incorporate safety, finance, and scheduling considerations;
- Implement risk management strategies to mitigate construction site hazards and guarantee adherence to legal regulations;
- Identify if construction work adheres to the specified standards through implementing quality assurance procedures.
