| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit provides students with the essential skills to create, analyse, and evaluate research proposals. It covers key components of research design, enabling students to identify research gaps, formulate compelling research questions, and justify appropriate methodologies. Through a structured framework, students will be guided in creating a research proposal that meets academic standards and adheres to ethical principles. Study-Unit Aims: This study-unit aims to develop students' ability to systematically design and write research proposals by identifying relevant research problems, evaluating appropriate methodologies, and formulating clear, structured arguments. By the end of this study-unit, students should be able to propose research ideas that are theoretically grounded, methodologically sound, and ethically robust. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Recognise the key elements of a strong research proposal; - Identify and describe research problems within a given discipline; - Explain the significance of literature reviews and their role in research design; - Illustrate the difference between qualitative and quantitative research approaches; - Review ethical considerations in research. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Analyse research questions and hypotheses to ensure clarity and feasibility; - Evaluate various research methodologies for suitability in different contexts; - Formulate a coherent and structured research proposal; - Synthesise relevant literature to establish a strong theoretical framework; - Construct a well-reasoned research justification using academic conventions.
