DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will introduce students to research particular legal issues by presenting to them facts which require legal interpretation. During this unit, students will be expected to analyse the case academically, by preparing a researched brief on the legal aspects, as well as to come up with a list of solutions for their fictitious client. Through these case studies, drawn from different fields of law, students will be helped to improve their legal writing as well as to develop the analytical skills that are necessary in providing correct legal advice. Study-unit Aims: • To enable students to understand how to use legal theories and doctrines to produce research that can be applied in the context of real life examples. • To enable students to develop their research skills with a supervisor as a point of call. • To enable students to understand how to write their research in a way that has a practical application and relevance. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • plan and conduct independent legal research; • use legal theories and doctrines in order to provide information that can help people in the context of real cases; • write up their legal research that brings out practical relevance. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • research specific legal issues indepedently; • produce Legal writing; • evaluate a case from a practical perspective.
