DESCRIPTION | The study-unit looks at diverse creative possibilities of responding to place and time through the process of art making. Students will be exposed to artistic practices that depict and resonate with specific thematic issues and meaning-making approaches. This study-unit presents students with an opportunity to work on the aesthetics and presentation of contemporary themes through artistic projects based on place and time. Students will be encouraged in the use of non-traditional materials. Study-unit Aims: - To inform students on the various possibilities of responding to place and time through the process of art making; - To give the students a chance to express themselves in a variety of materials that respond to contemporary thematic issues; - To foster a culture of critical, self-reflection and peer evaluation. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - develop a project exploring place and time from both an artistic and conceptual perspective; - translate contemporary issues into artistic research practice; - discuss and evaluate the process of art making through documentation of practice. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - present artistic possibilities that respond to place and time; - apply artistic media that resonate with thematic issues; - explore different approaches to art making in relation to a chosen theme.
