Study-Unit Description

CODE DGA5160

TITLE Studio Practice 2

UM LEVEL 05 - Postgraduate Modular Diploma or Degree Course

MQF LEVEL 7

ECTS CREDITS 5

DEPARTMENT Digital Arts

DESCRIPTION Building on the foundation of the earlier Studio Practice 1 study-unit, Studio Practice 2 offers an advanced framework for candidates at the Post Graduate Certificate level to engage deeply with their specialised artistic processes. At this stage, the emphasis is on the critical development and articulation of a cohesive body of work that reflects a mature understanding of practice as a mode of research. This study-unit continues to extend the unique practice-based research structure developed in Studio Practice 1, where regular studio hours with a specific lecturer create a dynamic, mentor-driven space for inquiry, critique, and refinement. It emphasises collaborative exploration between the student and their lecturer, fostering an environment where the artistic process becomes a rigorous, research-led investigation.

The study-unit supports a higher level of conceptual, technical, and methodological rigor as candidates prepare to position their work within the professional and academic landscapes. It encourages students to make contributions to their field through critical engagement with contemporary discourse, interdisciplinary experimentation, and innovative practice.

As in Studio Practice 1, Studio Practice 2 will be offered in a number of streams of specialisation:

• Animation
• Digitisation and Immersion
• Game Art
• Illustration
• Photography
• Painting and Drawing
• Sculpture and Installation
• Sound Art and Design
• Video and Screen Media
