DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is available during the summer period and attendance is compulsory. The student will be exposed to: 1. Clinical sessions in the various fields of Dentistry, within the University Teaching Clinic or alterative sites as deemed necessary by the Faculty; 2. Clinical sessions in allied fields in Medicine and Surgery, such as ENT and Plastics; 3. Community-based projects related to Dental Public Health issues. Official timetables will be customized according to the project availability and also to the class's requirements. Study-unit Aims: The aims of the study-unit is to further expose dental students to clinical practice in Dentistry and allied fields. In addition students will participate in community-based projects related to Dental Public Health. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Describe how to provide chair-side assistance; - Explain principles of handling of dental materials; - Discuss procedures in the Dental Laboratory; - Plan basic dental procedures; - Discuss community-based Dental Public Health projects. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Participate in chair-side assistance; - Handle Dental Materials; - Perform dental procedures in the different disciplines; - Carry out basic dental laboratory procedures such as pouring of dental models; - Participate in Community Dentistry Public Awareness Projects. |

ADDITIONAL NOTES | Attendance to scheduled sessions, inclusive of lectures/tutorials, practical, laboratory and clinical components is compulsory. Students who do not attend at least 90% of the scheduled sessions will not be allowed to sit for any of the assessment components mentioned below. This study-unit is assessed on a Pass/Fail basis. |
