DESCRIPTION This study-unit is available during the year/summer period and attendance is compulsory. The student will be exposed to dental laboratory sessions in the various fields of conventional and digital dentistry (i.e. laboratory conventional and digital workflow with milling and 3D-printing activities for manufacturing dental devices, such as prostheses, occlusal splints and surgical guides), within the University Dental laboratory or alternative sites as deemed necessary by the Faculty.

Study-Unit Aims:

The aim of the study-unit is to expose students from a dental technology background to dental laboratory practice and techniques associated with digital dentistry work flows as applied to various disciplines in dentistry.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Discuss the principles of CAD/CAM and their application within a digital workflow. This includes intra- and extraoral scanning, milling and 3D-printing methodologies.
- Discuss available materials and methods for laboratory digital workflows. This includes the use of dental materials such as titanium, zirconia, ceramics, and acrylic resin to be milled and/or 3D-printed in dental laboratories.
- Discuss the impact of technological development in dentistry.
- Discuss alternative and novel prosthetic techniques utilized in digital dentistry and their differences with conventional techniques.

2. Skills:
