DESCRIPTION | Globalization impacts the economies of all countries. The main vehicles for this are trade, migration and capital flows. The impact on economies has become more intense due to the fast pace of technology and innovation. The study-unit presents case studies on global trade policy and patterns, factor flows, tax competition, labour standards, the international monetary system, economic crises, inequality, economic cooperation and international institutions. The perspective is on applied international trade examples. Study-unit Aims: The aim of this study-unit is to introduce students to a rigorous economic analysis of global economic relationships. By the end of this study-unit, students should be able to apply theoretical models to analyze real world problems related to trade, migration,economic integration, international currencies, and capital flows. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - analyse policy implications on the free flow of goods, services, labour and capital; - calculate the impact of different types of economic cooperation; - describe and compare global economic interactions between governments, businesses and consumers. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - prepare seminar papers analysing the impact of the global economy on everyday life; - evaluate policy decisions through modelling; - empirically investigate theoretical predictions.
