| DESCRIPTION | The aim of this unit is to provide a good understanding of the different theoretical approaches to career guidance together with the implications of the use of each in different contexts. Students will be expected to actively participate in discussions and to apply their own experience related to career guidance throughout the study-unit. Study-unit Outline: - Introduction; - A brief overview of how the concept of career has evolved over time; - The psychological and sociological perspectives of career development; - Trait and type theories (Parsons, Dawis and Lofquist, Holland, Myers-Briggs); - Lifespan theories (Erikson, Super, Levinson, Schein); - Special focus theories (Roe, Roberts, Law); - Issues of diversity; - Career guidance in organizations; - The practice of career guidance in other countries.
