DESCRIPTION | This study-unit provides students with an introduction to the realm of financial accounting covering the following topics: - Objectives and scope of Financial Accounting. The identification of business transactions and their recording in the books of prime entry, with eventual posting into the ledgers. - Extraction of the trial balance. - Bank Reconciliation Statements. - Preparation of final accounts of sole traders and companies. - Control Accounts. - Incomplete Records and Single-Entry Book-keeping. - Accounting from cash records and preparation of accounts for Not-for-Profit Organisations. - The Statement of Cash Flows. - Interpretation of Accounts. - The Annual Report and Published Accounting ¸£ÀûÔÚÏßÃâ·Ñ. Study-unit Aims: The aim of this study-unit is to provide students with the necessary analytical skills to interpret a set of financial statements. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Define what accounting is and distinguish the distinct branches within the accountancy profession. - Recognise that in the ideal situation double-entry book-keeping is applied to record business transactions. - Analyse a complete set of financial statements through the application of ratio analysis. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate what the principal financial statements are and what information each of them transmit to interested users. - Interpret a complete set of financial statements. - Prescribe an optimal course of action depending on the results obtained from the interpretation carried out.
