DESCRIPTION | This study-unit focuses on aspects of teaching and learning within the curriculum. The unit is intended to explore different ways of involving children in educational music literacy that is fun whilst providing them with opportunities to explore musical concepts through play involving games. This progressive unit will provide a wide range of curriculum implementation methods: Songs, rhymes, stories, simple activities, sound discrimination games, stimulus sounds, movement, playing and improvising on instruments and conducting. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to: 1. Provide student teachers with ideas in early childhood music education that are based on current pedagogical practices; 2. Encourage student teachers to explore the benefits of quality music-making in the early years; 3. Offer opportunities to student teachers to explore the effects of music education on the cognitive and physical development, language and communication, social and emotional skills and wellbeing of early learners. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Design music learning activities; 2. Recognise and explain how children might typically progress in all areas of musical activity: rhythmic abilities, singing, moving to music, listening and participating with others; 3. Recognise children’s musicality. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Plan his/her work with the specific intention for children’s progress in musical development; 2. Use appropriate strategies for the teaching of music; 3. Build on previous material; 4.
