DESCRIPTION | This study-unit gives importance to the exploration of the contribution of the 鈥渟elf鈥 (both personal and professional) to supervision and ethical practice in a group context. The themes discussed will complement those addressed in the study units dealing with the theoretical and practical study units in systemic supervision. These will include issues such as power and authority in the supervisory relationship, the family of origin and professional genogram, issues around culture and diversity, gender, race and class, and managing multiple relationships in supervision. Study-unit Aims: This unit aims to deepen the trainees鈥 understanding of 鈥渟elf鈥 in their significant relational systems by providing them with an opportunity to share with other students the connections that they make between these personal and professional experiences, therapy and supervision. It will also give them the opportunity to reflect on ethical dilemmas in a group context. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Integrate the personal experiences of the therapist/ supervisor and reflect on how these experiences impact the supervisory relationships. - Distinguish between the supervisory relationship and the therapeutic relationship and ensure that these are different from each other. - Develop, plan and deliver personal and professional development group sessions for their supervisees. - Describe ethical dilemmas that includes knowledge of their practice competence and their limitations. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Reflect, and recognize themes from within their own significant relationships. - Articulate how these influence their work as systemic supervisors. - Incorporate feedback and evaluation from supervisees in their supervisory practice. - Develop their supervisee鈥檚 capacity to reflect on their reflexive abilities around supervision theory, around their ethical practice, and how their own personal and professional influence on the work with their clients.
