DESCRIPTION This study-unit will introduce key knowledge, skills and competencies which are required by the Textiles and Fashion educator to teach about fashion and the consumer, as well as basic teaching strategies and complementary resources to teach mainstream classes, including children with special needs, different gender or abilities. This study-unit enables prospective students to practice preparing different type of educational resources for different sectors of society.

Study-Unit Aims:

The study-unit aims at equipping students with the knowledge, skills and competencies to implement the learning outcomes outlined in the Textiles and Fashion vocational programme related to fashion and the consumer. It also gives students the opportunity to develop ideas and approaches to teach mainstream Textiles and Fashion classes. Students will develop strategies and learning experiences for a differentiated class. They will be exposed to and critically plan for real situations and practices involving challenging behaviours in different settings.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- outline the different pedagogical styles used to teach the component of fashion and the consumer in the Textiles and Fashion voctional programme;
- discuss specific themes related to fashion and the consumer, as well as develop schemes of work for both areas;
- explore approaches and teaching strategies which may be utilised in fashion and the consumer to teach mainstream classes having children with different special needs and different genders or abilities.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- demonstrate the ability to plan and produce various lesson plans and teaching and learning resources suitable for different-ability students and learning experiences within the fashion and the consumer aspect of the vocational programme;
- use modern learning technologies as a means to make Textiles and Fashion education more meaningful, appealing and motivating for students;
- adapt and apply various teaching and learning approaches to organise demonstrations and practical lessons.
