DESCRIPTION | This study-unit shall build on the skills and knowledge attained during the 1st year related to construction of textiles. It will further empower students to become more confident when using more advanced equipment and when undertaking complex sewing projects which require particular techniques. Study-Unit Aims: This study unit aims at consolidating the principles and skills of the construction techniques covered during the 1st yrs. It also aims at further developing a variety of more advanced practical skills that are used during specific stages of the construction of various textile items for personal and household use. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Describe through comparative tasks the characteristics of different types of fashion patterns; - Outline the different pattern adaptation techniques used to fit the different figure shapes and garment sizes; - Describe verbally the stages involved before the construction of garments. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Apply sewing techniques to complete a given project following health and safety procedures; - Demonstrate the techniques which are necessary for the construction of various textile items; - Construct an item for personal use by means of the most recent time-saving tools and techniques; - Produce various samples during the practical sessions.
