DESCRIPTION This study-unit is intended to equip students with the basic principles and understanding of CSR in general, in health - especially within the context of patient safety and clinical risk management. It will include topics such as: occupational health and safety, waste management, food safety, circular and green economy, patient safety, clinical risk management, as well as building resilience of health care systems to increase preparedness towards future challenges (i.e. pandemics, aging population, climate change), stakeholders’ well-being, and the social impact of patient safety.

Study-Unit Aims:

- Introduce students to the principles of CSR – in general, in healthcare, and in line with the UN SDGs and green economy principles;
- Introduce students to the principles of CSR and its sub-topics as well as understating practical applications of it within health care and hospital settings;
- Impart knowledge about the relevance of CSR in the context of patient safety science in postgraduate education of healthcare professionals;
- Impart knowledge about the relevance of CSR in the context of clinical risk management principles in postgraduate education of healthcare professionals;
- Help students develop a deeper understanding of the concepts of CSR for patient safety improvement.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Conceptualize the general principles of CSR – in line with the UN SDGs and the green economy principles;
- Conceptualize the principles of CSR and its sub-topics as well as practical applications of it within health care and hospital settings;
- Appraise the importance of CSR strategy in the context of patient safety and clinical risk management;
- Identify and assess the key factors related to CSR that help health organizations to maintain a safety climate and avoid medical errors.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Acquire knowledge and skills in CSR in general, in healthcare, and in line with the UN SDGs and green economy principles;
- Outline the complexity and variety of CSR concepts and their application in the health context (with specific regard to patient safety and clinical risk management);
- Outline CSR practical application to enhance the delivery of safe care;
- Positively influence CSR strategy development and awareness to improve patient safety.
