| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of inclusive education and its application across various settings. It introduces key concepts related to disability models, exploring how these models shape societal perceptions of persons with disabilities and influence the provision of education and support services. Through critical examination of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), participants will acquire practical tools such as scaffolds, supports, and alternatives, empowering them to assist Maltese Sign Language (LSM) trainers in creating inclusive learning environments. The study-unit further focuses on enhancing the skills of LSM trainers to deliver person-centred instruction that caters to a diverse range of learners, including students, professionals, and community members. It emphasises the importance of culturally sensitive and contextually relevant LSM training, ensuring that trainers can adapt their methods for various environments such as schools, educational centres, and professional training settings. This approach aims to increase public access to LSM and promote greater inclusivity in education, ensuring that both Deaf and hearing individuals can engage effectively with the language in diverse contexts. Overall, this study-unit aligns with broader inclusion goals, providing participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to contribute to more accessible and inclusive educational practices across Malta.
