DESCRIPTION | This unit addresses risk governance with an inter-sectoral approach reflecting both the common features and the peculiarities of each of the sectors included in the broad definition of financial services. The unit will approach such governance from a regulatory perspective as it has become more intrusive and complex. The aim of the unit is to define and critically discuss the culture of risk at all levels of the business organization. Moreover, the study-unit will deal with the operational function of risk governance prior to addressing the control functions. Study-Unit Aims: - To familiarise students with cross-sectoral approach to financial services (banking, finance, insurance); - To stimulate students to work in groups and to report the results of their work in public as required by the modern business organization. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - List the rules on risk governance and describe their meaning; - Analyse their impact on the organization and expected behaviors; - Report research results in public; - Compare the rules in the different sectors (banking, finance, insurance) of financial services. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Evaluate the challenges required from the EU risk governance regulation to financial services (banking, finance, insurance) operators, including supervisory authorities; - Interpret regulatory requirements on risk governance to report to other staff involved in the organization of financial services operators; - Identify the expected behaviors from these regulatory requirements and analyses the impacts in terms of organizational and conduct requirements; - Increase the ability to team-working and public speaking.
