DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will study the provisions of the Academy of Disciplined Forces Act and how members of the four disciplined forces are academically and physically trained in both law and discipline. It will also introspect the manner how the four disciplined forces are brought together under the aegis of one training academy to guarantee common high level teaching standards and academic preparation of its students. It also streamlines co-operation between the disciplined forces in the provision of external and internal security of the islands. This study-unit will discuss this legislative enactment that also contains provisions regulating the recruitment and preparation as well as the training that subsequently leads to the graduation of members of different ranks within the four disciplinary forces in Malta. Study-unit Aims: This study-units aims to make students aware of the internal and external operations of members of the four security forces in Malta and their inter-relationhip with the Maltese people at large. It also aims to develop student awareness of the contribution of the Academy's teaching role within the wider education sector, and to provide insight into the institutions that are established by the Act together with their functions. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (a) write a detailed assignment on the provisions of the Academy for Disciplined Forces Act; (b) analyse, evaluate, study, and interpret the provisions of the said enactment; and (c) give advice on the law that forms the subject-matter of this study-unit. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (a) familiarise themselves with the law on the enactment studied in the study-unit in question; (b) appraise, evaluate and research on the subject of disciplined forces' legal training; and (c) apply the law under consideration to particular cases.
