DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is intended to help students in the fourth year of the LLB Hons course to revisit the contents of historical legislation in view of their research and writing of the dissertation. It addresses legislation of different thematic literature and deals with legislative enactments that are still applicable today or at least relevant to the interpretation of modern legislation. This study-unit focuses on the background of a number of laws that are still in force and do not merely include laws of a constitutional, political. religious and social ones but also laws of importance to wireless telegraphy, aviation and other telecommunications. Study-Unit Aims: This study-unit aims to delve deeper into the historical development of ordinary Maltese legislation spanning the period of 1914 to 1964 by going through the various reports that lead to their enactment, amendment and repeal, the discussions thereupon, their passage in the legislature or executive council, reports of Crown Advocates and how these laws have influenced the development of Malta. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (a) identify the main sources of the Maltese ordinary legislation 1914-1964; (b) discuss the various versions that lead to the drafting and subsequent approval of Maltese ordinary legislation 1914-1964; (c) trace the influence that reports had in the eventual development of Maltese ordinary legislation 1914-1964. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (a) write about the historical development of Maltese ordinary legislation 1914-1964; (b) contextualise the development over time of the provisions of Maltese ordinary legislation 1914-1964; (c) compare and contrast the various versions of the provisions of Maltese ordinary legislation 1914-1964.
