DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will tackle major national construction and infrastructural projects and general building developments, in particular, the setting up of industrial and housing estates under two responsible governments in the 20th century. It will indicate to what extent measures of a legislative character and legal effects contributed to the implementation of such building developments in Malta. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to motivate law students to interest themselves in local legislation that in years gone by contributed to the planning and development of building areas in Malta , interpret such legislation in a historic legal context, and draw conclusions with regard to the drafting and implementation of future legislation concerning construction, infrastructure and housing. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (a) Analyse the legislation which contributed to construction and infrastructural developments in Malta in the light of development planning legislation; (b) Identify legislative measures which indicate building development and infrastructure across Malta. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (a) Familiarize themselves with the legal provisions relating to construction, infrastructure, planning and estates (both industrial and housing) across the Maltese Islands; (b) Advice on the legislation concerning construction, infrastructure, and planning and the statutory and relevant documented sources of such legislation.
