| DESCRIPTION | In this unit students will be given an opportunity to consider their own experiences as learners and reflect on effective practice and preferred learning styles. They will also be able to reflect on their ongoing experience in community education and further/higher education contexts, including through the use of journals, peer observation, and teaching experience, e.g. micro-teaching, peer observation, and expert observation. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to encourage students to critically reflect on their own experiences as a basis for personal practice. We will introduce the idea of the teacher as a reflective practitioner in the community and further/higher education contexts, and discuss why this is valuable and important. We will also discuss professional values and practice. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Critically evaluate one©s own teaching and learning experiences, as a way of informing their ongoing professional development; - Discuss the importance of ongoing reflection as well as different reflective methods (e.g. journalling). 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Evaluate learning strategies and recognise their own strengths, biases, and perspectives; - Identify and demonstrate their professional values as educators; - Describe the impact of external legislation/regulation on informing practice.
