DESCRIPTION This study-unit will cover practice-based teaching and learning in community and further/higher education settings, with a focus on practice including reflection on actual teaching practice.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to apply educational and linguistic theory to teaching practice, encouraging the use of a range of context-dependent approaches to teaching, assessment, and learning, on the basis of reflective practice, and critical evaluation of methods. It will be largely based on teaching practice, with portfolio development and reflective journals.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Discuss the work of experienced practitioners and evaluate this with reference to theory;
- Reflect on their professional skills.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Critically evaluate and apply educational theory to community and further/higher education teaching contexts and individual learners;
- Evaluate and apply professional values to classroom practice.
