DESCRIPTION This study-unit will cover skills for academic reading and writing, including library skills, referencing for academic writing, with reference also to the avoidance of plagiarism, structuring written/recorded essays, presentation skills, reading academic articles, professional behaviour in Deaf & Hearing culture.

Study-unit Aims:
This study-unit aims to establish good academic practice especially with respect to academic writing which uses the correct conventions for referencing and avoiding plagiarism. Presentation skills for video, live presentations, and written work, will be dealt with.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Outline the importance and make appropriate use of referencing;
- Avoid plagiarism and outline why this is important;
- Produce work such as written and video essays in an appropriate style;
- Critically consider the role of AI in academic practice.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Use appropriate academic resources to find information;
- Recognise the value of different types of references.
