DESCRIPTION | This study-unit provides participants from technology based backgrounds with the tools to maximize the probability of success for technology start up companies. The study-unit provides an understanding of entrepreneurship and prepares participants with business know how for launching successful ventures. Participants will learn that entrepreneurship is a manageable process. The main issues covered in this study-unit are the nature and context of entrepreneurship, the entrepreneurial mindset, the identification of technology opportunities, business model generation, innovation, evaluating the commercial viability of a new venture, challenges of the entrepreneurial start-up. Participants learn how to develop a new venture of their own and get to practice the entrepreneurial process using a case study approach. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and practical experience required to respond to the challenges involved in developing, commercializing and marketing innovative technology products. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Understand the process nature of entrepreneurship, and appreciate the role and importance of technology innovation in new business ventures. - Develop an integrated perspective of the process involved in creating a new technology enterprise. - Appraise the nature of creative new business ideas that can be commercialized into sustainable business ventures. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Recognize, interpret, and analyze their own creating potential. - Demonstrate critical analytical skills on business decision making, technology, and market strategies for new ventures. - Apply entrepreneurial concepts to real world organizations.
