Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this study-unit the students should be able to:
• Choose the most appropriate bacterial culture medium to use for specific bacterial strains;
• Identify bacteria using identification panels;
• Recognise the importance of fungal media; apply the information to evaluate the significance of the different media;
• Identify yeasts and moulds and apply this information to interpret the results of identification tests and procedures; and
• Understand the requirements and principles for using molecular biology techniques for the identification of infectious agents.
