DESCRIPTION | This study-unit intends to assist the student to: • Classify microorganisms phylogenetically, and describe the morphology in detail of these same microorganisms, including viruses; • Display an overview of fluorescence based methods for the detection of microorganisms in complex systems and their viability and metabolism; • Develop critical laboratory oriented skills that are necessary to characterize a microorganism from a diverse range of submitted samples that include swabs, blood products, body fluids and others; • Reflect about the qualitative and quantitative methods for the detection of the presence of microorganisms, including viruses, in human samples; • Describe and summarize a case study related to the subject. |
