DESCRIPTION | This study-unit intends to: • Explain the basic histopathology and cytopathology procedures and outline the specialized techniques in each respective area; • Describe the practical application of immunohistochemical techniques in histopathology and cytology, and discuss important scenarios such as breast cancer and colon testing by antibodies and receptor testing; • Describe techniques of liquid based cytology; • Outline the techniques of HPV testing and of in situ hybridization; • Define what sample types are submitted to the histo- and cyto- pathology and their processing; • Outline the use of the light microscope and its significance in detecting and diagnosing abnormal changes in a cell type. |
