DESCRIPTION | This particular seminar study-unit will comprise of an approximately 30-minute presentation in which members of the Board will be present and will normally be held at the end of the second semester of the three semester programme or the fourth semester in the part time programme consisting of six semesters. Prior to the seminar, the student shall submit a 250 word abstract with 5-7 key words of the presentation to the Chairperson of the Board. The presentation is to be focused on a subject area related to the project the student is conducting as part and parcel of the thesis to be submitted following the third/sixth semester on completion of the programme. The student in essence should demonstrate a clear understanding of the literature in question and also the gaps and be able to discuss the reasons for such. Both undergraduates and postgraduates as well as academic staff from F/I/C/S who have an interest in the field may be invited to attend the seminar and also participate in providing questions during or at the end of the presentation. The Board will examine the presentation on content and delivery. During the delivery of the presentation at the said seminar, the student will be examined on the following aspects: • General understanding/knowledge of the subject domain; • Ability to critically assess the published literature; • Ability to defend/renounce the position adopted as outlined in the presentation; • Communication skills. |
