DESCRIPTION | Each student will be placed on a particular clinical area relevant to their course of studies and be under the supervision on a named mentor. A series of competencies will guide the student through the work that they are required to do and, working with their mentor, they will develop an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, the skills development and the application of theoretical knowledge to clinical practice. Students will not be expected to function as 'qualified staff' but will learn the professional and personal skills under guidance and supervision from both mentors and academic supervisors in an incremental fashion, with each practice module building on the previous ones. Skills developments including interpersonal professional practice, using reliable techniques will be placed against the ability to utilize nursing process activities in a safe and competent fashion. Students will be expected to organise (under supervision) care packages for patients within the clinical group.
