In this study-unit focus will be given to stoma care and management, safe and effective feeding techniques and catheterization procedures.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Demonstrate Competence in Stoma Care;
- Implement Safe and Effective Feeding Techniques;
- Apply Competency in Catheterization Procedures;
- Integrate Person-Centred Care in specific needs such as nutrition and elimiation.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

Demonstrate Competence in Stoma Care:

- Identify different types of stomas (colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy) and their indications in patients with mental health conditions;

- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of feeding techniques, making adjustments based on patient response, and address feeding-related issues (e.g., refusal to eat, eating disorders);
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on the importance of proper nutrition and feeding techniques, addressing any concerns or misconceptions related to feeding in psychiatric patients.

- Demonstrate aseptic technique in performing catheterization procedures and maintaining catheter hygiene to prevent infections and ensure patient comfort;
- Address specific challenges faced by psychiatric patients, including cognitive impairments, non-compliance, and behavioral issues, when performing catheterization;
- Recognize and manage potential complications of catheter use, such as urinary tract infections or catheter blockages, while providing holistic care for mental health patients.
