DESCRIPTION This study-unit imparts conducting techniques for wind bands. It deepens knowledge about musical interpretation of scores. These are studied and analysed from the point of view of the conductor as the interpreter of the music being studied. Conducting gestures, expressions, and techniques are studied and eventually applied to these scores.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims at providing students with the possibility to (a) analyse a score from the conductor's point of view; (b) interpret the musical text; (c) apply appropriate conducting gestures, expressions and techniques.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

(a) identify the most appropriate techniques and strategies of efficient rehearsing of a wind band;
(b) apply proper conducting behaviour that relates to a sound conducting technique;
(c) locate and discuss the importance of the role of a conductor from the early 19th century to the present day.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

(a) employ creative and critical thinking to design informed choices of artistic eloquence;
(b) apply the right conducting gestures, expressions, and techniques;
(c) perform the delivery of articulation and phrasing details found in the score.
