DESCRIPTION This study-unit further develops the skills and techniques taught in the Applied: Vocal Training in Pop and Music Theatre. Vocal students will be guided to work on a core repertoire which will include distinctive works in the popular and musical theatre traditions. This study-unit will examine and discuss performance anxieties and coping strategies, improving personal skills for optimal performance and how to obtain better results from practicing.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to provide vocal students with the opportunity to upgrade their musical capabilities in order to succeed as performers.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a) recognise the development of the vocal repertoire;
b) identify major works in respective styles and periods and build up an effective and contrasting programme;
c) have the tools to be self-critical, prepare a musically-rendered performance and prepare effective programme notes.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a) identify strengths and weaknesses in their musical performance and improve quality;
b) focus on the relevance of historical and stylistic issues in vocal performance.

ADDITIONAL NOTES Pre-requisite Qualifications: Intermediate level of knowledge and technique in singing. All students are required to sit for an audition. The audition will be held during the period prior to registering for the study-unit.
