DESCRIPTION This study-unit is a continuation of what has been studied during first year. Students will continue to develop the playing technique in scales, double stops, chords as well as bowing and fingering technique including new, more complicated and more virtuosic types.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of this study-unit is to enhance all practical skills developed in Year 1 as well as to make closer connection between technical skills and interpretation of the musical piece. Also, students should improve their skills of playing music from memory and obtain knowledge of playing violin concertos with cadenza.

Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge & Understanding
At the end of the study-unit the learner will be able to:

a) acquire a wider knowledge of the existing violin repertoire;
b) analyse musical structure of selected piece;
c) attain a deeper understanding of musical phrasing;
d) identify the main technical and stylistic elements of playing.

Skills
At the end of the study-unit the learner will be able to:

a) show more fluency in music reading;
b) produce richer and more controlled tone and more versatile technique of both hands;
c) choose the most effective method or methods of practicing selected musical pieces;
d) play more technically demanding musical pieces;
e) prepare and perform selected works with a good level of technical and interpretive skills.
