DESCRIPTION | This study-unit focuses on the main areas of the canonic repertoire for solo piano, which will be analysed and studied. Students will perform the chosen pieces on the piano and will work on the technical and interpretative issues of each piece. Aims: This study-unit aims to: (a) equip students with the right approach to prepare scores for performance at the piano from the technical, analytical and historic points of view; (b) make links between history, styles and practice; (c) assist piano students reach a level of concert performance. Learning Outcomes: Knowledge and Understanding By the end of the study-unit the learner will be able to: (a) demonstrate the primary elements of piano technique; (b) show knowledge of styles and interpretation; (c) evaluate the most effective type of practicing tools for studying the pieces discussed and analyzed during the unit. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (a) perform the piano works studied with particular attention to structural analysis and historically-informed performance practice; (b) attain the skills to practise technically demanding passages; (c) apply different styles of interpretation to the pieces being studied.
