| DESCRIPTION | A good level of vocal technique is expected prior to entering this study-unit. During the sessions the student will concentrate on the study of a selected repertoire, its performance and interpretation. Here the vocal repertoire will consist of French, Spanish and English songs of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Though not a pre-requisite, this unit partners MSP2141 where Italian and German songs of the 19th and early 20th centuries have been studied. Students will also be guided to sing in the original French, Spanish and English languages. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to: a) develop a singer’s ability to perform a selection of repertoire selected from French, English and Spanish songs of the 19th and 20th centuries; b) develop a singer’s interpretative skills in performance; c) develop a singer’s musicality in performance; d) develop a singer’s performance skills in terms of the critical style of the period in question. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to perform a selection of repertoire of Spanish, French and English songs from the 19th and early 20th centuries. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - improve their public performance skills through stage confidence and a better musical preparation; - interpret a selected repertoire with a high musical level of performance and a good understanding of style. Main Text/s and any supplementary readings: A selection of vocal repertoire from the works of these composers: Claude Debussy, Ernest Chausson, Henri Duparc, Gabriel Faure, Charles Gounod, Maurice Ravel, Georges Bizet, Benjamin Britten, Roger Quilter, Edward Elgar, Gustav Holst, Vaughan Williams, Gerald Finzi, Manuel de Falla, Enrique Granados, Zarzuelas of the Romantic period. |
