DESCRIPTION This study-unit provides students with the opportunity to continue focusing on a high level of technical proficiency. It will continue exposing students to the vast number of percussion instruments. This study-unit will also focus on developing a greater awareness of percussion literature that will eventually help students throughout their professional career. Students will receive instruction on the technical demands of a number of difficult Orchestral Excerpts.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to help students develop an in-depth knowledge, understanding and skills in relation to percussion performance with emphasis on the orchestra repertoire and related playing techniques.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a. attain a sound understanding of the proper approach to professional percussion playing;
b. attain new technical knowledge on a wide range of percussion instruments;
c. demonstrate an understanding of theoretical issues in percussion playing.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a. demonstrate a high level of technique;
b. play a number of technically demanding Orchestral Excerpts;
c. play proficiently a wider range of percussion instruments.
