DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will extend students’ mathematical skills, equipping them with the skills necessary to gain a full understanding of chemistry. Starting from basic principles it will cover core mathematical concepts and techniques in algebra, differentiation & integration, vectors, complex numbers, and matrices. Study-Unit Aims: The study-unit will enable students to: - acquire the mathematics skills necessary to gain a full understanding of chemistry; - work out numerical chemistry calculations; and - interpret information presented in a mathematical form. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - differentiate functions; - integrate equations commonly encountered in chemistry; and - extract information from expressions involving commonly encountered mathematical functions. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - work out calculations and solve numerical chemical problems; and - derive expressions.
