| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will provide the students with a detailed background of general microbiology relevant to the diagnosis of infections. Specific laboratory procedures for the diagnosis of infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites will be covered individually. Learning Objectives The students will be able to: 1. Understand concepts of general microbiology related to clinical practice; 2. Gain knowledge of fundamentals of laboratory procedures including media preparation, isolation of micro-organisms, identifications, microscopy, susceptibility testing and other indirect techniques related to the diagnosis of infections.
