| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will focus on clinical aspects of microbiology and the relationship to disease as well as the epidemiology, prevention and control of communicable disease – both within the community as well as in healthcare institutions. This will include a focus on vaccination, public health as well as Hospital Infection Control. Learning Outcomes: The students will be able to: - Recognise common infectious diseases and understand the role of the microbiology laboratory in their diagnosis and treatment; - Appreciate the role of vaccination in the prevention of infectious disease including those infections occupationally related to working in a microbiology laboratory; - Understand fundamental concepts of the epidemiology of infectious disease and their prevention in both the community and within healthcare.
